Flyfisher's Guide to Minnesota
Published in Paperback by Wilderness Adventures Press (15 January, 2001)
Author: Mickey O. Johnson
Average review score:

Good Information about Range of Fishing Options
I have lived in Minnesota for 23 years and grew up on the border in Grand Forks, North Dakota. As a kid, our family vacationed annually in Minnesota's lake country around Walker. So I have been fishing in Minnesota since before I can remember. With that in mind, I think Johnson has come up with a great book.

There is a good balance of waters and fishing opportunities described that will be useful to out of state visitors and Minnesotans alike. Johnson has included everything from the giant muskie lakes like Leech to small brook trout streams like Gribben Creek. Usually flyfishing books and articles only pay attention to the Southeastern Minnesota trout streams. But Johnson points out good opportunities for bass, panfish, northern and other species.

The organization of the book is easy to use and handy for fishermen on the road. The lakes and streams are presented by region with a good sampling of waters. Two or three big name waters are described for each region, followed by a handful of less well known waters. The waters in each chapter are within easy driving distances of each other so you could try them all out if you had a few days and set up camp near one of the hub towns.

Reading the summary of the waters that I have fished, the information is accurate and there are a lot of good tips, but neither has Johnson given away the store on all of the best opportunities available. So people scared that their favorite spots have been given away can rest easy.

A wealth of practical, trip-planning information
Mickey Johnson's Flyfisher's Guide To Minnesota is 447 pages of detailed information about Minnesota lakes, rivers, fish, and accommodations designed specifically for the angler. Featured are more than 120 lake and river maps revealing lake depths, river access, campsites, and areas of special interest, as well as hatch charts, stream facts, and even recommended flies! There is a wealth of practical, trip-planning information on hotels, motels, campgrounds, fly shops, restaurants, campgrounds, car repair and rental resources, hospitals, airports, and more! Whether in search of Minnesota's walleye, large- or small-small mouth bass, northern pike, panfish, muskellunge, trout, or salmon, Flyfisher's Guide To Minnesota will prove an invaluable reference for a successful trip.

Fribbity Ribbit

Fribbity Ribbit: Upbeat and fun
Lively text and delightful illustrations combine to make Fribbity Ribbit! a joy for children in the 3 to 7 year age range. The simple story follows the journey of a cheeky frog as it hops from room to room in the home of an extended family. Everyone it encounters is jarred from their activity as the frog makes its presence known, until the entire house ultimately is in turmoil over the irrepressible intruder. The author has great fun with the story's refrain, "fribbity ribbit," altering it to fit each new encounter. As the frog invades the sister's bath, the refrain becomes, "Fribbity-splish! Ribbity-splash!" In one of the most charming scenes, the mother's art studio, the frog lands in the paint: "Fribbity-green! Fribbity-orange! Ribbity-red, white, and blue!" before leaving its imprint on the easel and leaping off to its next destination. This fun with nonsense words is a highlight of the book. The light-hearted text by Suzanne C. Johnson and humorous illustrations by Debbie Tilley complement each other beautifully. The entire story is simple, upbeat and fun. My 3 year old grandson and 8 year old granddaughter loved it.

Appreciate the fun of joining in on sound effects
Fribbity Ribbit!, Debbie Tilley's entertaining easy reader picturebook tells of a frog on the loose, which turns a family head to heals as they try to capture him. Parents will appreciate the fun of joining in on sound effects in this very easy story.

Frisbee: Practitioner's Manual and Definitive Treatise
Published in Paperback by Workman Publishing Company (August, 1975)
Author: Stancil E. Johnson

Frisbee gone Wild!!!
This book is amazing, although it has not yet been re-released as is claimed here. If it were, the world of frisbee would be so pleased, though. Packed full of historical and technical information, this cyclopedia of all things frisbee is an absolute neccesity for the frisbee-obsessed. And the pictures are worth the price, not to mention the iconistic rhetoric.

Disc Classic: Soon to be updated and re-issued for 1998
Take notice that the author, Stancil Johnson, will soon be updating this disc classic and having it published for it's second printing. More news to follow. Shortly, it won't be so hard to get your hands on this bible.

Frogs: A Wildlife Handbook (Long, Kim. Johnson Nature Series.)
Published in Paperback by Johnson Books (May, 1999)
Author: Kim Long
Average review score:

Know the Frog in Your Backyard
Chasing northern leopard frogs and spring peepers is a worthy pastime for kids. I discovered this when I was six at a lake in southwestern Michigan when I brought home an unexpected new pet from a duck pond. "Frogs: A Wildlife Handbook" is a great guide for moms and dads to help sort through what Junior brings home from his adventures.

This handbook provides the Latin name, a description, habitat, size and vocal call of each listed frog. There's a watercolor illustration of the frog, and a map of what range that frog has. You can know for sure if your find is truly a leopard frog.

More than a mere species descriptor, we read about the anatomy of frog types. Excellent diagrams of their skeletal structure, of how their tongues grab insects in mid-air, and of a tadpole metamorphosis are all highlights.

Predators and disease have their own chapters, and are worth reading. This helps put science (for nonscientists) behind the news about environmental concerns, as well as direct landowners through what's going on in their ponds.

On the fun side, we get a list of other languages' terms for 'frog'. In Hungary, you'll learn it is 'béka,' in Gaelic, 'losgann,' and in Hmong, a frog is called 'hma'.

I've read dozens of frog books for grown-ups and children, and am pleased to have read this one. While a six year-old might be overwhelmed with this one, he'll enjoy the pictures and grow into it. Everyone else will find it a useful guide for knowing one frog from another.

The best, most concise field guide to frogs I've ever read!
Kim Long's handbook on frogs is exactly what you need if you're looking for any type of information on frogs. I've read a lot about frogs before this book, but nothing has given such a broad variety of topics in such a straight-forward fashion. I've learned so much about this fascinating species from these pages. Trust me, you can't go wrong with this great book!

Excellent, suspensful, well written book. Captivating
This book was a well written suspense novel. It was a captivating book that made you feel as you were part of the entire scene in the book. I would highly recommend this book.

Great Book
This book makes you wonder if this is fact or fiction. The story becomes real as you read. I do not want to talk about the book content, it is too good to give away.

Geek-Proof Your Faith
Published in Paperback by Zondervan (12 June, 1995)
Authors: Greg Johnson and Michael Ross
Average review score:

"Geek Proof" prepares Christian teens for tough questions
"Geek Proof Your Faith" is a great book designed for equipping teens with the information they need to handle tough questions about their faith. Johnson and Ross do an excellent job of tackling tough contemporary issues by providing real life examples, Biblical reasons for why we believe what we do and sound (and realistic) suggestions for how teens can stand their ground and defend their faith. What I like most about this book is that it encourages teens to not be swayed in their faith, but to stand firm and confident in their beliefs.

Great way to firm up your faith
This book is very helpful for defending your faith in various areas, including abortion, evolution, reliability of the Bible, and more. It is easy to understand, and the issues talked about in it are pertinent to teenagers' lives. Biblical references and dozens of suggested books covering the same topics round out this excellent resource.

General Andrew Lewis
I agree that great men have been neglected in the overtures of history, such as General Lewis. However, he is intered at East Hill Cemetary just above downtown Salem, VA.

Gen. Andrew Lewis of Roanoke and Greenbrier by Johnson
I really enjoyed this book after searching for it for years! The General was one of my ancestors. My Gr. Grandmother was Samantha Lewis Westfall. It was a well researched book. However, the General's burial is in Hampton W. Va. As a small child I used to put flowers on his grave. This is near Buckhannon W.Va. I feel the same way that Johnson does, that so many greats were ignored while too much attention was paid to George Washington. General Lewis was at the very least, equal to Washington during and before the revolutionary way. A great book for history buffs!

Get God: Make Friends With the King of the Universe (Johnson, Kevin, Early Teen Discipleship, 1.)
Published in Paperback by Bethany House (September, 2000)
Author: Kevin Walter Johnson
Average review score:

Not just for young teens!
I'm a college student who knows her way around the Bible, and I still found this study to be enlightening (not to mention more fun than all that dreary adult stuff). The focus is on developing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Kevin Johnson has a rather unique style which is usually humorous (like a lesson titled "I Wanna Be a Sheep")but can get cloying (i.e. misspelling words to seem cooler). Behind the joking around, there's sound teaching which gets the reader into a Bible passage, complete with all the study notes, definitions, cultural explanations, etc. to understand and go deeper. There's also journaling and suggestions for life application, and stodgy youth pastors will like the discussion questions and pre-printed Bible verse memorization cards in the back, keyed to the lessons. I'd also recommend this to new believers who are still getting bogged down with all that symbolism and terminology, but don't want a hyper-serious doctrine course. I'm definitely going to order more books in this series.

Great Book
This is the ideal book if you want to show kids how great a relationship with Christ can be. I work at K-Life of Waco, TX and kids are excited every meeting because this book creates a fun way to learn about God. Get it!

God's Child Andrew
Published in Paperback by St Vladimirs Seminary Pr (March, 1998)
Authors: Sandra Johnson and Thomas Hopko
Average review score:

Light from the darkness of tragedy
This is the story of Andrew Stanar Johnson. Born into an Orthodox Christian family, he was a huge joy to his parents, who truly adored this precious child. However, his family's joy would turn to despair as, shortly after his sixth birthday, he is killed in an accident.

This book is an account of Andrew's life as well as an account of how his family, with the help of God, try to struggle through their loss. Andrew was a child who was completely convinced in the reality of God and His work all around us, and the knowledge that the end of one's earthly life need not mean "The End". Through their pain and suffering, Andrew's parents slowly begin to redouble their efforts to listen to what God is saying, and it is through this that they are able to continue on in hope, in faith, and in love.

Very Inspirational
This book tells a story of tragedy and suffering, but also of strength and faith in God. This books gives meaning and insight into the death of a young child. Make sure you have tissues nearby when you start reading this book. This book was hard to put down, read it from front to back in one sitting.
